With the wide-spread usage of generative AI, adopting AI applications and making them connect will be the key part of the business strategy going forward. Dr. Jorge Calvo, deputy dean of GLOBIS University, and former executive officer of Roland Digital Group Corporation Japan, will share his teachings from his book “Journey of the Future Enterprise.”
Dr. Calvo says, what GAFAM, Tesla and Nvidia have in common is that they are AI-driven. And the pace of technological and ecological change is exponential, that completely outpaces political, social and corporate changes.
He explains the path of Digital Transformation from Digitization, Digitalization, Digital Transformation and eventually to Automatization & Autonomation. This would mean that companies need to move from Data-driven Company, AI-driven Company and to AI-first Company, which implies that key functions of the company are conducted through AI automatically and autonomously.
AI-first companies build a human-centric AI Moat by integrating two reinforcing flywheels: Data and Talent. The Data Flywheel enables AI to refine predictions and operations, while the Talent Flywheel enhances human expertise, attracting top professionals. Together, they create a self-sustaining competitive edge, making it increasingly difficult for competitors to catch up. This synergy ensures continuous innovation and positions AI-first companies as industry leaders.
He concludes his book by finding the right way for humans to work with machines. Nakamura (dialogue partner) heard his speech in an executive training and was thrilled to learn Dr. Calvo’s perspective on the AI flywheel. Jorge Calvo
GLOBIS University, Deputy Dean
Jorge Calvo is a professor, researcher, author, and strategy advisor with 35 years of corporate experience as former Executive Officer at Roland Digital Group Corporation Japan, President Global SCM Division HQ, and President & CEO in EMEA. His experience spans the fields of digital transformation, global operations management, global supply chain management, organizational change development, business strategy development, disruptive innovation, and AI and Robotics business autonomation strategy. He has received several awards through this work.
Jorge holds a PhD, MBA, and MSc in business research in addition to diplomas and certifications from HBS and MIT in general management, digital transformation, AI strategy, and business case teaching.
In addition, Jorge serves as an affiliate professor of strategy and general management, executive-in-residence, and academic director of AI business strategy programs at ESADE Business School in Barcelona. He is a board director and member of the Japan Operations Management & Strategy Association, a member of the innovation advisory board of the Catalonian Economists Association, Barcelona 4.0 think tank, and several other academic and social associations. He is a frequent keynote speaker on strategy, AI, digital transformation, and leadership. Among the books he has authored is Journey of the Future Enterprise: How to Compete in the Age of Moonshot Leadership and Exponential Organizations, which was translated into Japanese in 2022.
At GLOBIS University Jorge serves as deputy dean and teaches courses such as Strategy and Moonshot Transformation.
