We have invited two military officers with experience in leveraging their military experiences in the civilian sector, Ms. Lara Ray and Mr. Ryan Cabanizas. We will hear from them regarding why they chose to enter the military, how they advanced their careers, and why they chose to pursue a Master’s degree. The speakers will also share how their studies helped them not only in the military but also in their civilian professions.
Ms. Ray obtained her Master of Arts Degree from Troy State University and her MBA from The Sorrell College of Business, Troy University. Mr. Cabanizas received his MBA from the Graduate School of Business, GLOBIS University in Tokyo, Japan. In the panel, we will also learn what kind of benefits are available for military professionals in their graduate studies.
After the seminar, an Admission Advisor will give an orientation to GLOBIS University and our MBA programs.

Lara Ray (Speaker)
U.S. Air Force Officer and Headquarters Human Resources Specialist
Lara Ray is a United States Air Force Officer serving the Delaware Air National Guard as a Military Personnel Officer and is a Human Resources (HR) Specialist for the Department of the Air Force Headquarters. Prior to Ray’s current position, she served as the Supervisory HR Specialist at the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, VA, where she developed and implemented policies for the Employment, Wage, and Compensation of the excepted service federal employees working for the National Guard in the 50 states, three territories and one district from 2019 to 2023.
Ray joined the Air National Guard as an enlisted airman, where she was a network administrator journeyman and knowledge management craftsman in Jackson, Mississippi. In her civilian capacity, Ray was a counselor and teacher before transitioning her career to being a full-time federal employee with the Air National Guard. She became a Human Resources Specialist working on matters at the tactical and operational level.
Ray later commissioned and continued her work as an HR Specialist as she moved to various states and worked in multiple sections with HR (Benefits, Employee Relations, Information Systems, Classification, and Recruitment and Placement), honing her knowledge and skills that impacted the policies and procedures at the strategic level in management.
In addition to her current role, Ray is a Northern Virginia Society for Human Resources Management (NOVA SHRM) member and volunteers and supports the Tuscaloosa Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
Ray earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, Mississippi, her Master of Arts in Counseling and Human Development, Personnel Relations at Troy State University in Montgomery, Alabama, and her Master of Business Administration from The Sorrell College of Business, Troy University in Troy, Alabama.
Ryan Cabanizas (Speaker)
U.S. Air Force Officer and Data Analytics Operations Officer
Ryan Cabanizas is a United States Air Force Officer serving in the role as the Data Analytics Operations Officer for the National Guard Bureau. In this role, he is responsible for the development and implementation of executive decision support and business operational data solutions at the enterprise level to inform strategic outcomes, improving the quality and timeliness of decision making.
Prior to Ryan’s current position, Ryan served as the Data Analytics Product Manager for the National Guard Bureau’s manpower directorate. In that role, he was responsible for the development and implementation of an application to identify the prevalence of risk behaviors amongst 445,000 servicemembers in the National Guard.
While on serving in a reserve status, in the civilian sector Ryan has experience at the operational, tactical, and strategic levels in the healthcare industry. Outside of healthcare, Ryan has had experience in marketing and robotic processing automation.
Ryan began his military career as an enlisted airman in the Air National Guard, where he was an aircraft maintenance journeyman on the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker. Ryan later commissioned in the as nurse in a disaster response unit. Ryan has experience at operational, tactical, and strategic levels in the National Guard.
In addition to his current role, Ryan maintains clinical hours as a nurse at an Emergent Care Center. Ryan is also a licensed pilot and is building towards a commercial license. Ryan is an active member and volunteers his time with Ascend, a network of accomplished professionals and executives from Fortune 500 companies.
Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu, Hawaii, and his Master of Business Administration from The Graduate of School of Management, GLOBIS University in Tokyo, Japan.

Tomoya Nakamura (Moderator)
PRESIDENT, GLOBIS USA, INC.
Mr. Tomoya Nakamura serves as President of GLOBIS USA, Inc.
He started his professional career at Marubeni Corporation, reorganized an investment company at Advantage Partners, and was the Senior Managing Director of Sun-Life Corporation (TSE 7040). At Sun-Life he introduced a progressive ESOP for more than 250 employees including part-time workers.
He served as Dean of the English MBA Programs at GLOBIS University while also starting the GLOBIS global training business and continues to serve as the main facilitator for various corporate clients. He primarily lectures on leadership, kokorozashi, and globalization.
